The property known as ‘Belmont’ is a portion of the original farm which was purchased in 1941. It was used for sheep including a successful Dorset Horn Stud. The farm has been in the Simmie family for three generations.
In the mid 1990’s Belmont was farmed by Peter and Robyn, revegetated with local indigenous trees and in 1997 a 20 acre vineyard was planted with predominately Shiraz and Pinot Noir grapes.
A contract with Southcorp Wines saw the grapes supplied to Seppelts at Great Western for a number of years. In 2002 a portion of the grapes were made into wine under the Yuroke Vineyards label and several vintages have followed.
The property has run Black Angus Steers but more recently has started breeding Red Angus Cattle and currently has 30 breeding Cows.
